Diabetes Self Management Education Program
WHAT IS IT?
Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) is an organized program of individual or group educational sessions to help people with diabetes learn about their disease in order to make informed decisions about their own diabetes care. DSME is provided by a diabetes nurse educator and a dietician. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? People with any type of diabetes can benefit from Diabetes Self-Management Education. WHY PARTICIPATE? Diabetes is a serious disease that is not currently possible to cure, but it can be controlled. Learn about the many aspects of how you can help control your disease may help you to: Feel better Stay active Prevent complications Maintain or improve the quality of your life WHAT WILL I LEARN? What is diabetes? Healthy eating Physical activity Medication treatment Monitoring blood sugars Preventing and detecting complications Risk reduction Psychological adjustment to managing diabetes Goal Setting and Problem Solving WILL INSURANCE PAY FOR IT?
